The Hoshini Clan of Kirigakure

The Hoshini Clan is upper class-patriarchal citizens who hold an elite social reputation and are often deemed trustworthy. Though secretly, most clan members have evil intentions, and many carry knives on them for defense. Due to sources “unknown” to the public they own the local hospital, where all males within the clan are trained as medics (often times they use their knowledge of life to create undead).

Two physical requirements are used to select occupants of their secret cult of necromancers – green eyes and a spiral scar to which mostly males enter. To date the Hoshini clan are 14 members strong (excluding Shani and the Lyonson branch), also only one female is known to the Hoshini clan elders, Miki, at age 15, is about to be initiated (they are unaware, at least they don’t let on, of their knowledge of Blake/Arisu).

They use a soft lullaby as a secret entry code and are only given to the members of the family involved within the cult – although all members are aware of the cult, if they are caught spreading rumors, they are killed on the spot and their deaths are quickly covered up. However, not all succumb to the Head Elder’s ways…

Isamu Hoshini grew up with a loving mother and father and upon reaching the age of 15 was initiated into the family cult – the darkest secret he never expected. He would go to their meetings, participate in their rituals, create and summon undead as his parents willed it, but always felt that it was wrong and some how his father figured out he wasn’t being completely honest to them by submitting his soul. His father confronted Isamu about it, wanting to kill him on the spot; Isamu being a scared and frightened teenager ran away, only to be brought back by the clan bodyguard to be given a severe beating. After which his father placed him into a private room in the hospital where he could heal for a month, his father’s intentions to torture him within an inch of this life again. Isamu’s mother pleaded with his father for his life – which he granted – for the price of hers. She was shocked, momentarily to hear him even say it then, nodding slowly she went outside and committed seppuku.

Isamu’s father never forgave him for his mothers’ death, rubbing it in his face every chance he got, until he grew weary of it, he banished Isamu to his grandfather’s home; which kept him out of the cult, for the moment. His father had intentions to make Isamu suffer more, meanwhile a war broke out between Mist and Sand, Isamu immediately signing up to get away from his clan, and never returning home ( the rest is history – so to speak – see: Shani Lyonson : Background Story).

While few of the Hoshini clan know Isamu’s story, everyone knows his name, the head elders of the clan making sure to spread fear and make sure no one else leaves the clan, trying to make an example of Isamu.
